Cabernet Sauvignon is king in the Napa Valley and, after leaving its homeland in Bordeaux, it is grown in many New World wine regions. Because Cabernet Sauvignon is successfully grown in so many soil types and climate zones individual terroir plays a dramatic role in the expression of the grape’s qualities.
The Cabernet Sauvignon clone primarily used in the making of Rusted Lyre Cab is 337. The clone is a classic French Bordeaux clone noted for small berries which reap concentrated flavors. This wine, at alcohol in the 12% range, offers up a nice acidity to make it very food friendly and worthy of aging.
The grape berries are picked at the height of fresh fruit flavors. This picking schedule makes a low alcohol wine reminiscent of European wines but with Napa Valley style.
Rusted Lyre Vineyards 2012 (12.2% Alc.) Upon enjoying our 2012 Cabernet, you will note flavors from French Oak, spices of clove, mint and anise, black raspberry fruit and tannins of moderate intensity. We especially love the long fruity finish on this wine. The 2012 has a complex nose and a long finish which makes you wish for just one more taste.
Rusted Lyre Vineyards 2013 (12.7% Alc) Offers bright black raspberry on the nose which carries nicely through the mouth. Moderate tannins lend supple richness and structure on the palate yet allow approachability. The bright fruit and velvet tannin pleasantly linger creating a long, beautiful finish. This delicious food wine will pair nicely with grilled chicken, lamb or pork… or try it with a burger! This wine will develop over the next 5, 10 or more years.
